Bangkok (VNA) – Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung had working sessions with the Governors of Trat, Chanthaburi, and Chonburi provinces in eastern Thailand between July 10-12 to discuss measures to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Hung expressed his satisfaction with the existing ties between Vietnam and Thailand, highlighting the 19 pairs of localities that have established twinned relationships. He urged these localities to actively engage in exchange activities and implement signed agreements to achieve substantive progress in areas like investment, trade, and tourism.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand always stays ready to accompany exchange activities and local cooperation between the two nations, he said.

Nattaphong Sanguanchi, Governor of Trat province, which has twinned relations with Long An and Ca Mau provinces of Vietnam, conveyed his affection for Vietnam. He pointed out tourism, particularly waterway travel, as a promising area for further collaboration.

Monsit Phaisanthanawat, Governor of Chanthaburi province, highlighted a survey trip in 2007 with the collaboration between Chanthaburi, Trat, and Vietnam’s Kien Giang province to explore sea tourism routes connecting Chanthaburi to Phu Quoc island. He expressed his desire to revive this plan with the support of the Vietnamese Embassy and relevant authorities, if deemed feasible and effective.

Governor Thawatchai Srithong of Chonburi province with a twinning agreement with Vietnam’s Dong Nai province, proposed fostering collaboration to attract more tourists to both countries. He also envisioned establishing connections with Vietnamese industrial hubs for raw material sourcing and expressed interest in joint efforts for skilled labour training and development.

While in Chanthaburi on July 10-11, Hung also met with representatives of the Vietnamese community there and visited several religious establishments./.
