Hanoi (VNA) – The organisers of Miss World 2021 have released a short film announcing this year’s competition, featuring the two Vietnamese contestants – Do My Linh and Luong Thuy Linh – and their unforgettable moments.

The 70th edition of Miss World will take place in Puerto Rico on December 16 this year, according to the announcement video.

The four-minute video also describes the 69-year history of the planet’s oldest and biggest beauty pageant and meaningful journeys of many beauties from all around the world. It is a way to honour the beauties with mind-blowing performances who were able to leave a mark in the audience’s heart and mind in each competition.

Miss Vietnam 2016 Do My Linh looks stunning while walking out on stage in a shimmering evening gown, which was quite impacting, during the Top Model competition. Miss World Vietnam 2019 Luong Thuy Linh, meanwhile, appears modest and comfortable when she is filmed going on a trip back to her hometown for a charity project.

Do My Linh, from Hanoi, won the Beauty with a Purpose award at the Miss World 2017 pageant in China for a charity project called “Lighting up the Darkness” she had carried out in Cu Vai, a remote village in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai.

She stayed with local ethnic people, experienced difficulties they faced daily and helped with finding ways to bring electricity to them. The locality was besieged by heavy rain, floods and landslides at the time Linh was implementing the project.

This was the first time a Miss Vietnam had won an award at the Miss World beauty pageant.

Linh was also named among the top 40 and also 20 Head to Head Challenge winners at Miss World that year.

Her successor from Cao Bang, Luong Thuy Linh, followed her footsteps to represent Vietnam at the global event when she was 19. She was placed in the Top 12, the highest rank a Vietnamese contestant has ever achieved.

The beautiful, strong-minded girl did not only aspire to represent Vietnam at the Miss World stage but also used it as a platform to give back to her community.

Her charity project “Building roads, connecting dreams” aimed to create proper roads for people living in the remote mountainous areas in her hometown which can, in return, provide them with better access to education, health care and amenities. The project was among the Top 10 at the Beauty with a Purpose award.

Before Luong Thuy Linh, Miss Vietnam 2018 Tran Tieu Vy also gave a strong performance at the world stage, two months after she was crowned the national title. She entered the Top 32 at the Top Model competition and Top 30 at the end of the grand finale.

Vietnamese fans are now pinning high hope on the newly-crowned queen, Miss Vietnam 2020 Do Thi Ha, who will represent the country at the Miss World 2021 competition.

Ha, the youngest in a purely agricultural family with three siblings in Thanh Hoa, was placed 7th in Missosology’s second hot picks in March, three spots higher than the first ranking.

She has embarked on her journey to Nam Tra My, a district of the south-central province of Quang Nam which suffered heavy losses due to flooding last year, to carry out her charity project for the Beauty with a Purpose title.

She is expected to be another strong Vietnamese contestant at the Miss World this year./.
