Vietnamese border provinces, China’s Guangxi eye stronger cooperation

The Vietnamese northern border provinces of Cao Bang, Lang Son, Ha Giang and Quang Ninh and China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on February 22 held a video conference on enhancing cooperation between border localities of the two countries.

Ha Giang (VNA) – TheVietnamese northern border provinces of Cao Bang, Lang Son, Ha Giang and QuangNinh and China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on February 22 held avideo conference on enhancing cooperation between border localities of the two countries.

In his opening remarks, Secretary of the Party Committee of HaGiang province Dang Quoc Khanh spotlighted the long-lasting traditional friendshipbetween the two countries’ people and the sound development of the bilateralrelations in recent times, saying that exchanges and meetings betweenthe two sides at all levels have been regularly organised with various forms, contributing tostrengthening friendly relations and political trust.

The localities of the two countries also coordinated closely inimplementing solutions effectively and synchronously to prevent and control theCOVID-19 pandemic, and promote production and business activities and cooperationin key fields, he said.

Khanh underlined the needfor the Vietnamese border localities, and Guangxi tocontinue to fully tap potential andadvantages, promote exchange and comprehensive cooperation between the twosides, and maintain smooth trade activities at border gates in order to ensurethe operation of goods supply chains.

It is also necessary to resume trade activities at bordercrossings and border gates in order facilitate the exchange of goods by borderresidents; and soon completely restore entry - exit activities at border gatesof the two sides towards resuming and developing tourism in the Vietnamese andChinese localities, he said.

Liu Ning, Secretary of the Party Committee ofthe Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, said 2022 was a successful year inexternal affairs between China and Vietnam.

Cooperationbetween the four northern border provinces of Vietnam and the Chinese autonomousregion hasdeveloped across fields, especially border trade, he noted, suggesting the twosides continue to build a more effective and substantive connection,cooperation and exchange mechanism, and expand bilateral trade cooperationmethods, thus further boosting economic and trade and cooperation, especiallycross-border trade.

Liu expressed his belief that with the efforts and determination ofthe two sides, the cooperation between the Vietnamese localities and theGuangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region will continue to be implemented effectively,significantly contributing to promoting socio-economic development and benefitingthe sides’ people, and deepening the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategiccooperative partnership in the coming time.

The two sides agreed to tighten the solidarity and friendship, promotethe development of cooperation mechanisms in various fields, and lift local cooperationto a new height, contributing to further deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperativepartnership.  

At the event, the two sides inked an agreement on cooperation inpersonnel training in the 2023 – 2027 period, and eight agreements in other areas.

Within the framework of the conference, the 14th meeting of theJoint Working Committee of the provinces of Ha Giang, Quang Ninh, Lang Son, andCao Bang, and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region was organised./.

This year’s award went to a group of female scientists from Hanoi University of Science and Technology for their research cluster on applying biocatalysis to enhance the value of Vietnamese agricultural products. Vietnam co-chairs 5th ASEAN–UK joint cooperation committee meeting

Vietnam, Russia step up cooperation in civil defence, emergency response

Looking ahead, the Vietnamese side expressed its wish that the two sides would continue to promote cooperation, focusing on the exchange of delegations at all levels, training programmes, sharing of experience in civil defence, disaster prevention and emergency management, and exploring search and rescue equipment.
