The Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh and Cambodia’s Battambang province are seeking to enhance their cooperation through a joint Trade and Tourism Fair 2013, which opened in Battambang on April 8.
The event also aims to broaden trade ties between Tra Vinh and Cambodian northwestern provinces, including Battambang, Banteay Meanchay, Pailin, Pursat, Oddar Meanchey and Siem Reap.
Running until April 12, the fair features nearly 100 booths, introducing to Cambodian consumers typical products of Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region such as frozen aquatic products, aquatic species, plants and fertilizers.
Speaking at the fair’s opening, Vice Chairman of the Tra Vinh People’s Committee Nguyen Van Phong said the fair is a chance for businesses of both sides to study each other’s market, seek investment opportunities and broaden their cooperation.
There is also room for Tra Vinh and the Cambodian provinces to strengthen their cultural and social cooperation, contributing to developing the traditional friendship between the two countries and peoples, he said.
During the fair’s framework, a seminar on farming techniques will be organised with the aim of helping the two provinces’ agriculture sectors to improve productivity and economic efficiency.
Battambang is considered the largest rice granary of Cambodia. However, its rice yield averages only 2 tonnes per hectare.
On the occasion, the two provinces signed a memorandum of understanding on socio-economic and cultural cooperation in the future, focusing on economic activities and personnel training.-VNA
