Vietnamese carriers run over 150,000 flights in first half

Vietnamese carrier, including Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Jetstar Pacific, and Vasco, operated a total of 150,010 flights in the first half of this year, up 9 percent year-on-year, reported the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese carrier, including Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Jetstar Pacific, and Vasco, operated a total of 150,010 flights in the first half of this year, up 9 percent year-on-year, reported the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).

Of them, 129,165 flights were punctual, accounting for 86.1 percent and marking a 1.7 percent decrease year-on-year. As many as 20,845 flights were delayed and 434 were cancelled.

Specifically, national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines operated 64,221 flights and was the best performer in terms of punctuality with 57,381 flights on-time. The number of delayed and cancelled flights was 6,840 and 140, respectively, together making up 10.7 percent.

Out of its 60,362 flights, budget airline Vietjet Air recorded 10,235 late and 66 cancelled ones, equivalent to 17 percent.

Low-cost Jetstar Pacific led in flight cancellations and delays with 3,659 out of its 18,439 flights late or cancelled, representing 19.3 percent.

Among 6,988 flights run by Vasco, 97 percent were on time. Only 126 flights were cancelled, up 1.8 percent year-on-year, and the rate of delayed flights stood at a mere 3 percent.

The CAAV said the late return of planes continued to be the main cause of delays and cancellations, accounting for 65.9 percent. Other causes included weather conditions, and flight management and control.-VNA
