Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Le Huy Hoang saidthat the activity is a modest contribution from Vietnamese people living andworking in Mozambique to the national COVID-19 vaccine fund, which wasofficially launched in Hanoi on June 5. The fund aims to mobilise all socialresources for the purchase and import of vaccines as well as for research,development and production of domestic vaccines.
Highlighting Vietnam’s pandemic prevention and control efforts, Hoang called onVietnamese expats in Mozambique to donate to the fund, helping Vietnam speed upthe target of mass vaccination programme.
According to the ambassador, many Vietnamese people in Mozambique who could notattend the ceremony had sent their donations to the embassy.
The fundraising campaign will run until June 19, he said, adding all thedonations will be sent to the national COVID-19 fund via the Ministry ofForeign Affairs and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee.
There are currently some 300 Vietnamese people in Maputo, including businessmen,medical and education experts, students and overseas Vietnamese./.
