Buenos Aires (VNA) – Officials and staff of the Vietnamese and Cuban Embassies in Argentina gathered at an exchange in Buenos Aires on September 26 to strengthen their friendship and solidarity, heading to the celebration of the 64th anniversary of the Vietnam-Cuba diplomatic relations (December 12, 1960-2024).

Addressing the event, Vietnamese Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet hailed the meaning of the exchange, which coincided with Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President To Lam’s state visit to Cuba.

The diplomat affirmed that the traditional solidarity and special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba, initiated by President Ho Chi Minh and Cuban leader Fidel Castro, is a priceless common asset that is nurtured by the Parties, States and people of the two countries. This is an exemplary relationship, a symbol of brotherhood, comradeship and pure international communist solidarity, she emphasised.

Together with the international community, Vietnam has called on the US to remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, and completely lift its embargo against the Caribbean country, she said, pledging that the Party, Government and people of Vietnam will always stand shoulder to shoulder with Cuban people in the revolutionary process and in the process of updating the Cuban people's socio-economic model.

For his part, Cuban Ambassador Pedro Pablo Prada extended greetings to Vietnam on the 79th National Day, noting that the exchange takes place on the occasion of the 61st founding anniversary of the Cuban Committee for Solidarity with South Vietnam, the predecessor of the Cuba - Vietnam Friendship Association.

The diplomat highlighted the traditional exemplary relationship between Vietnam and Cuba, which has been forged and tested over the past decades. The two countries have always support each other in the common struggle against foreign invaders and in the current cause of building socialism, he noted.

The Cuban ambassador affirmed that the two nations will continue to stand side by side to advance on the path of building socialism in accordance with the characteristics of each country. He said that a delegation of Cuban experts is ready to depart for Vietnam to support Vietnamese people in overcoming the consequences of Typhoon Yagi.

At the event, staff members of the two embassies watched a film about the solidarity between the people of Vietnam and Cuba, including the latest images of the visit to Cuba by Party General Secretary and President To Lam, as well as the evening news programme on September 26 of the Cuban television reporting on the visit of the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation./.
