HCM City (VNA) - Doctors from Binh Dan Hospitalin Ho Chi Minh City have recently visited the Philippines to perform robot-assistedsleeve gastrectomy operations, showcasing the technique to their local peers.

The trip took place at the invitation of the Manila-based PhilippineGeneral Hospital, one of the biggest of its kind in the country with 1,500 beds.The robotic surgeries were conducted on October 24 for two obese patientsweighing over 130 kg each.

Surgery that uses robots is less invasive and uses smallerincisions than normal surgical methods. It reduces pain, bleeding, infectionsand the length of hospital stay.

The next day, the visiting Vietnamese doctors also introducedadvanced robotic operating skills targeting the digestive system.

Binh Dan Hospital is a pioneer for robotic operations foradults in Vietnam. Carrying out more than 800 robot-assisted surgeries over thepast three years, it is gradually turning itself into a training centre for thetechnology in Vietnam and Southeast Asia./.

Brain-dead organ donor helps save six lives

Within 24 hours, the process of receiving the donated liver, two kidneys, two corneas, and skin to conducte transplantation for six patients was completed. The last surgery ended at 8:00 pm on May 3.

Free medical checkups provided for border residents

Running from April 12-13, the activity forms part of the 9th Vietnam–China Border Defence Friendship Exchange Programme, scheduled for April 16-17 in Vietnam’s Lang Son province and China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
