London (VNA) – A delegation from the Vietnamese Embassy and  the associations of Vietnamese expatriates and students in the UK headed by Ambassador Tran Ngoc An laid wreaths at Thurrock Council on November 7 to commemorate 39 Vietnamese victims of the lorry tragedy in Essex.

Earlier the same day, the victims were officially confirmed to be Vietnamese citizens. They were found dead in a container truck in Essex, the northeast of London, UK, on October 23.

In response to the news, the Vietnamese Embassy issued a statement expressing deep sorrow, and extended its sympathy to the victims’ families.

The embassy pledged to coordinate with a Vietnamese inter-sectoral delegation now working in the UK and relevant agencies of both Vietnam and the UK to repatriate the victims’ remains as soon as possible.
