Vietnamese female golfer Nguyen Thao My has won a berth at the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships, to be held in Florida, the United States, from July 16 to 31.
The event will be held at PGA National Resort and Spa, Palm Beach Gardens.
The 17-year-old ranked fourth in the 15-18 age group in the qualifying round in Thailand in March.
Contestants will compete in the 10-11, 12-13, 14-15 and 16-18 age groups for boys, and in the 10-12, 13-14 and 15-18 age groups for girls, with My playing in the 15-18 category.
The event is one of the premier tournaments in the world for outstanding junior golfers from the US and nearly 30 countries.
With an expanded format to allow more participants, it features an international field and is ranked by both Golfweek and the Junior Golf Scoreboard.
My, who is currently participating in a training course at the Green Valley golf club in Thailand and pursuing her studies at the American International School in Bangkok, won the 2014 National Women's Open Golf Championship.
She will be part of the five-member national team that will compete in the 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore from June 6 to 12.-VNA
