Vietnamese leaders to send messages to UNGA 75 high-level meetings

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnamese leaders are to send messages to upcoming high-level meetings of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, spokeswoman of the Foreign Ministry Le Thi Thu Hang said at a regular press conference on September 17.

She noted that the high-level events between September 21 and October 2 will include a high-level general debate and other meetings on the sidelines which will be held both online and offline at the UN headquarters in New York.

Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong is set to deliver his message to the high-level general debate on September 24.

Before that, on September 21, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc is expected to send a message to the high-level meeting commemorating the 75th anniversary of the UN. 

Meanwhile, a message from National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan will be sent to the high-level meeting celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women on October 1.

On October 2, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh will convey his message to the high-level event marking the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, according to the spokeswoman.

Hang emphasised that Vietnamese leaders sending messages to high-level meetings of the UN General Assembly’s 75th session aims to affirm Vietnam as a responsible member with proactive participation in and active and substantive contributions to the activities of the UN and the international community. It will also demonstrate the country’s attention to the settlement of international and regional issues.

In particular, she added, this will be the first time the Party General Secretary and State President has sent a message to the UN General Assembly, and it will be the Vietnamese Party and State’s highest-level message on the country’s foreign policy./.
