Vietnamese literature set for translation

Numerous Vietnamese literary works will be translated into foreign languages following signed documents between the Vietnam Writers’ Association, publishing houses and translators in Hanoi on Jan. 8.

As part of an international conference on promoting Vietnamese literature held from Jan. 5-10, the signed agreements will be implemented from 2010 to 2015 within 10 countries.

Foreign signatures included the Joiner William Centre of the United States , the India-Vietnam friendship and solidarity committee, the Lao Writers’ Association, the Russia Writers’ Association, the Hungarian Diary Journal, the Aria Publishing House of the Philippines , the Tranan Publishing House of Sweden, and translators Ahn Kyong Hwan from the Republic of Korea and Dashtvel from Mongolia .

At the event, the Vietnam Writers’ Association presented medals to 50 writers, poets and translators from 15 countries in recognition of their contributions to promoting Vietnam literature to the world.

Within the framework of the ongoing conference, a night of poetry will be held in Tuan Chau resort in the north-eastern province of Quang Ninh on Jan. 8. This is an opportunity for participants to express their favourite works and love of literature.

Attendees will also visit landscapes and historical relics like Ha Long Bay, Yen Tu temple, an effort to promote Vietnamese culture to foreigners./.
