Vietnamese movie impresses Parisian cinephiles

Taking the audience on a journey of initiation through rural Vietnam, “Ben Trong Vo Ken Vang” (Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell) from Vietnamese director Pham Thien An has won the hearts of Parisian cinephiles after picking up the Camera d’Or at Cannes Film Festival.


The Luxor cinema in Paris was bustling with movie-goers curious about the recent Cannes-winning film. Most were favourably impressed by its stunning scenes in the Central Highlands.

“Ben Trong Vo Ken Vang” was made with An’s excellent cinematography and film techniques, which were acquired from his experience in wedding videography.

According to Les Inrockuptibles, a French cultural magazine, 34-year-old An stands out as one of the most exciting “discoveries” at this year’s Cannes film festival. With the “Camera d’Or”, his film career has become quite promising, it said./.
