Abu Dhabi (VNA) – National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan suggested closer coordination between the legislative bodies of Vietnam and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in implementing cooperation agreements between the two nations, towards strengthening bilateral ties.

At a meeting with President of the UAE Federal National Council Amal Al Qubaisi on December 12 on the sidelines of the 11th Global Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament, Ngan affirmed Vietnam treasures friendship and cooperation with the UAE, expressing her delight at the development of Vietnam-UAE relations.

She lauded the preparation for the summit, contributing to improving the role and position of the UAE in the region and the world.

While highlighting the potential for the two sides to enhance economic links, especially in trade, investment, petroleum and labour, NA Chairwoman Ngan said the UAE is likely to become one of Vietnam’s leading economic partners.

For her part, Al Qubaisi shared her impressions of Vietnam after her trip to the country in 2015.

Appreciating proposals given by the Vietnamese leader at the summit, she said Vietnam’s experience shared at the summit are good lessons, contributing to the event’s agenda.

On the basis of effective cooperation in many fields, the two countries should further expand connections in economy, trade and labour, she said.

Al Qubaisi noted in her country’s foreign policy, Vietnam has an important role in Asia and the Vietnamese delegation’s attendance at the Summit plays a vital role in bolstering bilateral relations.

The two legislatures should boost ties, contributing to the two Governments’ efforts to promote cooperation between the two nations, Amal Al Qubaisi.

The UAE is one of Vietnam’s leading partners in trade, investment and labour in the Middle East and Vietnam’s seventh largest importer in the world.

Two-way trade in 2015 and the first nine months of this year hit 6.3 billion USD and 4.3 billion USD, respectively. The UAE is also a big investor from the Persian Gulf in Vietnam, with total registered capital of 4 billion USD. At present, about 5,000 Vietnamese labourers work in the UAE.-VNA
