Washington (VNA) – The fine development in Vietnam-US relations has opened up more cooperation opportunities between Houston’s enterprises and Vietnamese partners, said a senior official of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV).

Truong Thi Mai, Politburo member, Secretary of the CPV Central Committee, and head of its Commission for Mass Mobilisation, made the remark while meeting with Mayor of Houston Sylvester Turner during her working visit to the city from December 2-3.

Mai took the occasion to thank the municipal administration for creating favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, study and do business in the city.

She suggested the city intensify cooperation in energy, healthcare, and education with Vietnamese localities and partners.

Turner said that the 300,000-strong Vietnamese community in Houston has made positive  contributions to the city’s economy and enhancing its trade and investment cooperation with Vietnam.

He promised to maintain support for the community so that they can further contribute to US-Vietnam relations.

The mayor also introduced Houston’s potential for collaboration with Vietnamese partners.

As part of her visit, Mai had a meeting with representatives of the Vietnamese community in Houston, during which she informed them of the country’s situation, as well as the Party and State’s current policies.

She appreciated their efforts towards boosting national development, while encouraging them to contribute more useful initiatives to the Party and State, and continue nurturing the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

On this occasion, the Party official visited the family of Vu Van Le, an outstanding overseas Vietnamese national in Houston. She spoke highly of the efforts made by him and his family to collect and preserve antiquities and tangible cultural heritage related to Vietnam.–VNA
