The Vietnamese People Association in France (UGVF) will priortise teaching Vietnamese for children of overseas Vietnamese born in France in its new term.

It was affirmed by Ngo Kim Hung, who was elected Secretary General of the UGVF at the association’s 13th congress that took place in Paris, France, on April 13.

The UGVF, whose precursors were from the Group of An Nam Patriots founded by the late President Ho Chi Minh in 1919, held its congress as part of activities to mark the 40 th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and France .

The association has in its past term organised a number of significant activities to support the Vietnamese Agent Orange victims and provide people in different localities in Vietnam with medical check-ups, said Vietnamese Ambassador to France Duong Chi Dung, who attended the congress.

The Vietnamese diplomat also praised the contributions made by the association to tightening the friendship and cooperation between the two countries, and developing the bond between the two peoples.

Dung said he hopes that through the congress, Vietnamese intellectuals and young people in France will work with French authorities and progressive associations to bring bilateral relations to a new height.

The same day, the Vietnam Culture Center and UGVF jointly held a photography exhibition depicting the association’s development history over the past 90 years.-VNA
