Vietnamese pupils earn Vallet scholarships

A ceremony to present ‘Odon Vallet’ scholarships to poor or disadvantaged Vietnamese pupils took place on August 29 at the Herman Gmeiner School in the central city of Da Nang.

The 1.8 billion VND available will fund 228 scholarships for outstanding pupils from the central provinces of Quang Nam , Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, and Phu Yen, and Da Nang city in the end of the 2011-2012 academic year.

Addressing the event, Professor Odon Vallet, the scholarships founder said he recognises that Vietnamese youngsters have a keen desire to study further and added that he hopes they will achieve more in their studies in the future and contribute to the country’s development.

Odon Vallet, from France , is a dedicated millionaire philanthropist who set up the ‘ Odon Valley ’ Foundation to provide scholarships across the world for poor or disadvantaged schoolchildren with outstanding abilities. By the end of 2011 the foundation had provided 19,160 scholarships worldwide, worth over 63 billion VND.-VNA
