Vietnamese students bagged two gold, three silver and one bronze medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Thailand, rising to fifth place of the 104 participating teams, revealed the Ministry of Education and Training’s Department of Education Testing and Accreditation on July 15.
The two gold medals were won by Vu Xuan Trung from Thai Binh High School and Nguyen The Hoan from Hanoi National University ’s Special School for Natural Science.
Hoang Anh Tai from Nghe An, Nguyen Tuan Hai Dang from Hanoi and Nguyen Huy Hoang from Ho Chi Minh City won the silver medals and Nguyen Thi Viet Ha from Ha Tinh province brought home her bronze.
This is the best outcome for the Vietnamese team in recent years at an IMO, an annual world mathematics competition for high school students. The team only ranked 10th in 2014 and 7th in 2013.
The Vietnamese students are set to return to Hanoi on the afternoon of July 16.-VNA
