Osaka (VNA) - Vietnam suffered yet another heavy defeat on March 7 at the AFC Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Rio 2016 qualifier, losing 6-1 to hosts Japan in a game where the only prize was honour.

Both teams already knew they could not qualify for Rio this summer with Vietnam having lost all three previous games and Japan’s hopes were crushed after China secured a narrow victory against the Republic of Korea in an earlier game.

Japan’s Iwabuchi opened the scoring in the 39th minute. Three minutes later, Huynh Nhu scored an equaliser from the penalty shot, Vietnam’s only goal so far in the tournament.

Shinobu Ono restored the lead for Japan right before half time. During the last ten minutes of the game Nahomi Kawasaumi, Emi Nakajima, Yuki Ogimi and Kumi Yokoyama all found the net for Japan, completing a crushing victory for the hosts.

Meanwhile, Australia secured their place at Rio this summer after a 2-1 win over
