Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc (R) and his Turkish counterpart Binali Yildirim meet the media after their talks (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA)– Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Turkish counterpart Binali Yildirim discussedmeasures to promote trade and investment partnership between the two countriesduring their talks in Hanoi on August 23.
Lauding the outcomesof the two countries’ Joint Committee’s seventh meeting in July, the two PMsstressed their determination to raise two-way trade to 4 billion USD in 2020through boosting trade and investment promotion activities.
The Turkish PMsuggested that the two sides consider cooperation possibilities in the defenceindustry.
Welcoming the Turkishbusinesses accompanying PM Binali Yildirim, PM Phuc said that he hopesenterprises of Vietnam and Turkey will make use of their meetings during thevisit to boost the trade of goods, investment, people-to-people exchange andtourism between the two countries.
He proposed that Turkeyrecognise Vietnam’s market economy soon, and asked that Turkey remove a number ofunreasonable taxes and fees on Vietnamese products such as footwear, fibre, belts,air conditioners and cell phones.
The two sides agreedto work closely to enhance cooperation in transportation, especially aviationand maritime affiliation, science-technology, culture-education,security-defence and people-to-people diplomacy.
PM Binali Yildirim suggestedthat the two countries provide scholarship to students of each other andencourage their students to study the language and culture of the othercountry.
The two PMs concurredto collaborate closely to organise activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties in 2018.
On political ties, thetwo sides agreed to strengthen delegation exchange and encourage thecooperation between their ministries, sectors, localities and friendshiporganisations. They pledged to continue with coordination and mutual support atinternational forums.
The Turkish PM askedfor Vietnam’s support of Turkey’s bid for a seat in the UNESCO Executive Boardfor the 2017-2021 tenure, while showing backing of Vietnam to become a non-permanentmember of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term.
The two sides also sharedconcern on rising terrorism and affirmed their support for regional andinternational efforts in anti-terrorism.
Regarding the East Seaissue, PM Binali Yildirim affirmed support of Vietnam’s efforts in maintainingstability in the region in general and the East Sea in particular, as well asthe stance of Vietnam and ASEAN countries on settling disputes in the East Sea bypeaceful methods via dialogues and with respect for international law.
Following the talks,the two PMs witnessed the signing of an agreement between Vietnam’s Ministry ofFinance and Turkey’s Ministry of Customs and Trade on administrativecooperation and support in customs, and an MoU between the Vietnamese Ministryof Planning and Investment and the Turkish Ministry of Economy on partnershipin developing export processing and economic zones. The Directorate forStandards, Metrology and Quality of Vietnam and the Turkish Standards Institutionalso signed a cooperation plan for the 2018-2018 period.-VNA
