Ninety-two Vietnamese workers in Libya’s capital Tripoli and surrounding areas were safely evacuated to Tunisia via Ras Ajdir border gate on August 13 and will fly home between August 14-16, according to Vietnamese Ambassador to Libya Dao Duy Tien.
The workers travelled nearly 200 kilometres by car to Ras Ajdir where they were met by a working team of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and representatives from labour export companies.
Earlier on August 7, the Tunisian Embassy in Beijing said its government agreed on principle to allow Vietnamese citizens to transit via the country.
Meanwhile, Tran Tam Anh, Second Secretary of the Vietnamese Embassy in Egypt , said 33 other workers in Libya are scheduled to reach Salloum border gate in Egypt on August 16.
A working team from the embassy will travel to the border gate on August 14 to deal with administrative procedures in preparing to receive the workers and take them to Cairo for flights home, he said.
According to the Overseas Labour Agency under the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs, by the end of August 13, 907 Vietnamese workers in Libya had returned to Vietnam , while 294 others safely arrived in Tunisia , Turkey and Egypt where they are now waiting for flights back home.
The agency’s statistics showed around 1,750 Vietnamese workers were employed in Libya by the end of July.-VNA
