Vietnam exported 12.45 million tonnes of cement and clinker in the last eleven months, representing a year-on-year increase of almost 63 percent.
During the period, the country’s total cement sales increased nearly 13 percent against the same period last year, reaching 55.17 million tonnes.
The rise in sales volume was mainly due to exporting cement and clinker, said President of the Vietnam Construction Materials Association (VCMA) Tran Van Huynh, adding that it is only a palliative attempt to clear surplus inventory because of low prices and similar situation in many countries.
The Ministry of Construction projected that the cement sector is likely to reach a total sales of 60.5 million tonnes this year, up 4.5 million tonnes against the forecast target of 56 million tonnes.
According to VCMA, domestic demand for cement will reduce from the projected figure of 75-76 million tonnes to about 60-65 million tonnes by 2015.-VNA
