London (VNA) – Vietnamese contemporary art projects have been showcased for the first time at the annual London Design Biennale that opened in London, the UK, on September 3 under the theme Emotional States.

This year’s event attracts artists, designers and inventors in the field of culture from more than 40 countries and territories. They will together explore big questions and ideas about sustainability, migration, pollution and energy so as to help create positive changes in the face of these global challenges.

Among the three Vietnamese artists featured at the exhibition, fashion designer Thao Vu has elevated traditional fabric making to contemporary couture. Multidisciplinary designer Giang Nguyen has trawled through past decades to unearth patterns, fonts and colours. Meanwhile, visual artist Le Thanh Tung has inserted the symbolism of yesteryears into multimedia genres.

Tung said he is happy to be at the London Design Biennale 2018 and coordinate with Thao Vu and Giang Nguyen to introduce Vietnam’s traditional culture combined with contemporary arts and technology to international friends.

Their presence at the exhibition is among a series of activities marking 45 years of the Vietnam-UK diplomatic relationship. More events will be organised in September and October by the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK, British agencies, the Vietnam-UK Network, the Vietnamese Association in the UK, and the Vietnamese Student Association in the UK.–VNA
