Vietnam’s longest sea bridge opens to traffic on National Day

Tan Vu-Lach Huyen Highway in the northern port city of Hai Phong, which includes the country’s longest cross-sea bridge, will be opened to traffic on National Day (September 2), according to the Project Management Board 2 under the Ministry of Transport.

Hanoi (VNA) – Tan Vu-Lach Huyen Highway in the northern port city ofHai Phong, which includes the country’s longest cross-sea bridge, will beopened to traffic on National Day (September 2),  according to the Project Management Board 2under the Ministry of Transport.


The 5.4 kilometre bridge is part of the Tan Vu-Lach Huyen Highway project whichconnects developing areas in the east of Hai Phong city with Lach HuyenInternational Port in the island district of Cat Hai and the Hanoi-Hai PhongExpressway.

Once the bridge becomes operational, travelling from Hai Phong city to Cat HaiIsland will take about five minutes, compared to hours on ferries.

The highway, 15.63 kilometres in length, had total investment of about 11.85trillion VND (525.3 million USD), with the majority from Japanese officialdevelopment assistance.

The project is expected to form a complete transport network facilitatingtransportation to Lach Huyen International Port, thereby attracting moreinvestment to Hai Phong city.

Pham Hong Son, Director of the Project Management Board 2, said that afterseeing the road meet quality requirements, the State Council for Pre-AcceptanceTest of Construction Works approved the road opening to traffic on September2.-VNA

To accommodate surging travel demand and keep transport operations running smoothly, the PM instructed relevant bodies to boost transport capacity, particularly public passenger services, to ensure seamless connections at railway stations, airports, bus terminals and ferry ports. Authorities were told to ensure that no travellers are left stranded or delayed in returning home for Tet due to a shortage of transport, while strictly preventing fare gouging and unlawful price hikes. Proactive measures to curb traffic accidents and congestion during the peak holiday period were also highlighted.
