Hanoi (VNA) –
Vietnam’s water puppet artist Phan Thanh Liem is scheduled to show off his skills in using puppets at the Yangju Culture & Arts Center in the Republic of Korea between July 25 and August 10.

Liem and four other puppeteers will perform eight shows, each lasting about 50 minutes.

This is the third time Liem, dubbed “The ambassador of Vietnam’s pastoral arts”, has been invited to bring the Vietnamese water puppets on stage in the RoK.

Water puppetry is a traditional form that dates back to the 11th century under the Ly Dynasty. Villagers in the Red River Delta and other rice-growing regions in the north of Vietnam staged water puppet performances to celebrate the end of the rice harvest, religious festivals and other important occasions.-VNA
