Vietnam’s wind power development approved

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a wind power development plan for Vietnam which will be carried out by 2018 with official development assistance (ODA) from the German Government.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a wind power development plan for Vietnam which will be carried out by 2018 with official development assistance (ODA) from the German Government.

The project involves a total investment of 3.7 million EUR, including 3.6 million EUR of non-refundable German aid.

The objectives are to support the development of the wind power industry, build a database on local and national wind power potentials, and improve the capacity of localities and sectors to manage and develop the industry effectively.

Three wind power facilities are currently in operation in Vietnam. Two wind power plants are located in the central province of Binh Thuan - one in Tuy Phong district with a capacity of 30MW and one on Phu Quy island with a capacity of 6MW.

The third wind power plant is located in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu with a capacity of 16MW.

In addition, 45 wind power projects have been registered in Vietnam with a total capacity of 4,822 MW, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s General Department of Energy.-VNA
