Vinh Long (VNA) – Nearly 350 young people in theMekong Delta province of Vinh Long’s Long Ho district joined a series of greenactivities on October 26 to launch a local Saturday voluntary campaign thatsupport environmental protection for a green future.
They took part in collecting plastic waste, clearing bushes,dredging sewage, and planting trees in the local Phuoc Yen market, onoverpasses, and routes within the Hoa Phu industrial park.
Participating youths also presented gifts to needy students,and mounted communications activities on the prevention of dengue fever as wellas on safe electricity use, among others.
The campaign aimed to promote the voluntary spirit amongyouths and raise public awareness on curbing the use of plastic products andpackages in contribution to building a healthier and cleaner environment.
Vietnam discharges about 1.8 million tonnes of plastic everyyear, standing 17th among 109 countries in terms of the plastic waste volumereleased.
The country aims to reduce the volume of non-biodegradableplastic bags used at supermarkets and shopping malls by 65 percent by 2020compare to 2010. By 2026, it targets zero non-biodegradable plastic bags.-VNA
