Some 3,150 children aged 12 to 15, including disabled and underprivileged ones from Thailand, Laos and Vietnam are taking part in the biggest football tournament for children - “Football For All in Vietnam 2013” (FFAV 2013).
The tournament, which kicked off in Hue city in the central Thua Thien-Hue province on June 8, is part of the Football Association of Norway (NFF)-funded programme “Football for All in Vietnam” to promote football in the community.
About 200 volunteers are also available in the event to assist children footballers during the tournament, which includes over 1,100 matches.
Besides playing football, the participating children will learn life skills, involve in cultural exchanges and take part in city tours to explore history and people of Hue.
The tournament will run until June 11.
The “Football for All” project, jointly initiated by the Vietnam Football Association and the Football Association of Norway in 1997, was launched in 2000.
It started in Hanoi in 2001 before spreading to central Thua Thien-Hue province in 2003.
As a result, 147 football clubs have been established, involving more than 16,000 young football players.-VNA
