The Border Guard of central Thanh Hoa province and the Military Command of Laos’ Houaphan province have agreed to enhance the exchange and dissemination of information while engaging in joint patrols to protect the shared border line.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed at a meeting in Thanh Hoa province on August 27, under which the two sides also pledged to work closely with each other to fight all types of crimes, especially drug crimes.

The two sides will promote educational campaigns among Vietnamese and Lao officials and people, particularly the Mong ethnic group, to stop uncontrolled migration and illegal border crossing.

At the same time, they will continue giving advice to the steering committees for border marker planting of the two provinces in completing legal documents for border markers.

In the first months of this year, the two sides have coordinated in maintaining security and order as well as socio-economic development in the Thanh Hoa-Houaphan border area, contributing to the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two localities.-VNA
