The Vietnam Maritime Rescue Coordinating Centre under the Maritime Department will act as Vietnam ’s Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC) for ASEAN’s search and rescue activities at sea.
The designation, recently made by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, reflected Vietnam’s adherence to the ASEAN Declaration on Cooperation in Search and Rescue of Persons and Vessels at Sea issued by ASEAN Foreign Ministers at their meeting in October 2010.
According to the declaration, ASEAN encourages its member states to assign a relevant competent agency as the Rescue Coordination Centre or similar agencies to collaborate with corresponding authorities in ensuring timely assistance to persons and vessels in distress at sea./.
