VN reaffirms consistent policy on human rights

A Vietnamese permanent representative to the UN has underlined the country’s consistent policy on human rights at the an UN consultation for States parties on treaty body strengthening held in New York on April 2-3

Ambassador Le Hoai Trung, who chaired the first discussion at the meeting, said for Vietnam, ensuring human rights is the country’s consistent policy shown in the legal aspect as well as implementation mechanisms.

Vietnam is a member of almost conventions on human rights, including civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights, the child and women’s rights, he said, describing it as a basis for the country to build laws and implementation mechanisms with the participation of the State, the entire people and social organisations.

Vietnam ’s participation in this meeting shows the country’s consistent policy to secure human rights and its commitments in implementing international duties and contributing to international cooperation in human rights, the Ambassador stressed.

The April 2-3 meeting is part of the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights’ consultation process and the final consultations before summing up comments by concerned parties and making a report to submit to the UN General Assembly, which is expected to be released in June this year.

The meeting was attended by President of the 66 th session of the General Assembly Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon and UNHCR chief Navi Pillay.-VNA
