A plenary conference of the Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organisation (ASOCIO) will be held in Hanoi and the northeastern province of Quang Ninh from June 17-20.

Hosted by the Vietnam Software Association (VINASA), the conference is expected to draw the participation of 60 leaders of IT associations and firms from 21 ASOCIO member economies.

ASOCIO’s Vice President Truong Gia Binh said the conference will serve as an opportunity for Vietnam to introduce its renewal achievements, especially its progress in the software and IT industry.

Binh, who doubles as President of VINASA, said the delegates to the event will meet with leaders of the Government and the Ministry of Information and Communications. They will also attend a seminar to share experiences in building and implementing polices to foster IT development.

At the conference, Vietnam will put forth a number of solutions designed to step up regional cooperation in training personnel for the IT industry, Binh said.

ASOCIO is a group of IT industry associations coming from economies in Asia and Oceania region. Established in 1984, ASOCIO’s objective is to promote, encourage and foster relationships and trade between its members, and to develop the computing industry in the region.

Presently, ASOCIO represents the interests of 28 economies, comprising 21 members from Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, he Republic of Koreat. Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and seven guest members from USA, UK, Canada, Spain, Russia, France, and Kenya.

Today, ASOCIO’s members account for more than 10,000 ICT companies and represent approximately 300 billion USD of ICT revenue in the region.

Under the ASOCIO umbrella, member economies are provided an opportunity to collaborate amongst the member economies for growth.

VINASA, representing Vietnam ’s IT industry, joined ASOCIO in July 2002. Through bilateral and multilateral cooperation, VINASA has successfully connected the country’s IT companies with the international community and helped them penetrate a number of markets, especially Japan ’s software processing market./.
