State President Nguyen Minh Triet stated that Vietnam wants to boost ties with Denmark and Canada at his separate receptions to the newly-accredited Danish and Canadian ambassadors to Vietnam in Hanoi on Sept. 30.
Receiving Danish Ambassador John Nielsen, President Triet thanked Denmark for its commitment to providing ODA to Vietnam till 2015, affirming that the assistance would effectively accelerate Vietnam ’s poverty reduction and economic development.
He expressed his hope that with their strengths, Danish enterprises would invest more in Vietnam .
Ambassador Nielsen said that Denmark wants to shift the focus of bilateral relations to trade, research, education and mitigation of the impacts of climate change in order to help Vietnam build a green economy.
Meeting Canadian Ambassador Deborah Chatsis, President Triet asked her to convey congratulations to David Johnston, who will take office as Canadian Governor General on October 1, and his invitation to the Governor General and other Canadian leaders to visit Vietnam to boost relations between the two countries.
He expressed his wish that the two countries would expand cooperation areas and thanked Canada ’s authorities for creating favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community there.
The Canadian Ambassador expressed her hope that Canada and Vietnam would continue boosting cooperation in politics, economy and culture.
She affirmed that Vietnam plays an active role in ASEAN, as well as in the relations between ASEAN and Canada./.
