VNA extends helping hand to Agent Orange victims

The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) is joining hands with organisations nationwide to present gifts to victims of Agent Orange/dioxin on the occasion of the Day for Vietnamese AO/dioxin victims (August 10).

In the northern province of Bac Ninh, a VNA delegation offered gifts to 10 victims, each worth 500,000 VND sourced from VNA’s Fund for the AO Pain.

The provincial chapter of the Vietnam Association of the Victims of Agent Orange/dioxin (VAVA) and the Veterans’ Association also granted gifts valued at a total 95 million VND (4,500 USD) to 180 victims and 4 houses, each worth 50 million VND (2,300 USD).

The VNA bureau in the Central Highlands province presented gifts, each worth 500,000 VND to 10 victims in Don Duong and Duc Trong districts.

The VNA’s Fund for the AO Pain has been operating for seven years, providing help to AO victims nationwide in various forms such as wheelchairs, medical equipment and medicines.

In the central city of Da Nang, the VNA, the municipal VAVA chapter and charity organisations handed over gifts worth over 100 million VND (4,700 USD) to 300 victims living in difficult circumstances.

Da Nang is now home to 5,000 AO victims, including 1,400 children. The municipal VAVA chapter is taking care of 160 child victims in its three rehabilitation centres.
