The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) Television Centre has recently launched a new programme, “For a happy family”, aiming to raise public awareness of domestic violence and prevention.

The programme, jointly produced by VNews Television Centre, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the Family Department of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, was being broadcast twice a month at 9.15pm on Mondays, with the first episode shown on August 18.

Vice Director General of the VNA and Director of the VNA Television Centre Nguyen Hoai Duong told a press briefing in Hanoi to introduce the new programme that domestic violence had not yet been addressed because of traditional customs, while Vietnamese people considered it a private issue and victims of domestic violence remained isolated.

Duong also pointed out shortcomings in dissemination and education of domestic violence issues and a lack of community involvement.

The 25-minute programme, which included family news, reports and talks with experts, will convey ethical values and discuss lifestyle and family behaviour and measures to prevent domestic violence, he said./.
