VNA television introduces family programme

The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) Television Centre has recently launched anew programme, “For a happy family”, aiming to raise public awareness ofdomestic violence and prevention.

The programme, jointlyproduced by VNews Television Centre, the Spanish Agency forInternational Development Cooperation (AECID) and the Family Departmentof the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, was being broadcasttwice a month at 9.15pm on Mondays, with the first episode shown onAugust 18.

Vice Director General of the VNA and Director of theVNA Television Centre Nguyen Hoai Duong told a press briefing in Hanoito introduce the new programme that domestic violence had not yet beenaddressed because of traditional customs, while Vietnamese peopleconsidered it a private issue and victims of domestic violence remainedisolated.

Duong also pointed out shortcomings in disseminationand education of domestic violence issues and a lack of communityinvolvement.

The 25-minute programme, which included family news,reports and talks with experts, will convey ethical values and discusslifestyle and family behaviour and measures to prevent domesticviolence, he said./.
