On the relations between economic growth and inflation control, the Party leader said the NA would advocate to maintain growth at an appropriate level and focus on policies to ensure social welfare.

Regarding sea and island sovereignty, the Party chief affirmed the determination to firmly defend and preserve national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He told the voters that the Party and State strategic policy aimed to maintain peace and stability for development and exploit and develop the economic potential of the sea to enrich the nation.

He also emphasised the need to uphold the spirit of solidarity and consensus in the Party and people in the fight against negative phenomena, corruption and wastefulness in order to successfully implement set targets to help the country steadily advance on the path of industrialisation and modernisation.

While meeting voters in central Ha Tinh province, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said that the first session of the 13th NA agreed that the elections of the 13th National Assembly and the People’s Councils at all levels for the 2011-16 term concluded successfully with a record number of voters casting their ballots, reflecting their high responsibility for the Party and State.

Representatives of Ha Tinh’s voters proposed the NA increase its supervision of the implementation of Party and State policies at grass roots level, enhance anti-corruption measures and prioritise the implementation of rural and agriculture development policies.

Meanwhile, voters in Districts 1 and 3, Ho Chi Minh City, proposed a further increase in the NA’s supervision role and function in not only the activities of the Government, ministries and branches but also the implementation of the NA deputies’ people-elected representative role while they met with State President Truong Tan Sang.

They expressed their concern over inflation and weaknesses in land and urban management, planning, education, healthcare, environmental protection and other fields.

They proposed that defending territorial integrity is a top priority, so Vietnam must take drastic measures to defend sea and islands sovereignty and have more laws on sea and islands.

State President Truong Tan Sang told voters in Districts 1 and 3 that inflation control is the most important task that the NA, Government, ministries and branches are exerting their efforts to fulfil.

He took the occasion to confirm the Party and State’s determination to fight corruption and wastefulness.

On the national sea and island sovereignty issue, Sang said all issues must be settled in accordance with international law, stressing that fighting to defend security must be combined with preserving a peaceful environment for national development./.
