Havana (VNA) - Deputy General Director of Radio The Voice of Vietnam (VOV) Pham Manh Hung and President of the Cuban Institute of Information and Social Communication (ICS) Alfonso Noya Martínez signed a new bilateral cooperation agreement, as part of the Vietnamese official's working trip to Cuba from September 4-7.
At their earlier talks, the two officials affirmed the importance of enhancing cooperation in the free-of-charge exchange of news, information, digital content, and radio and television programmes relating to culture, history, music and tourism. It is set to broaden and deepen the mutual understanding, friendship, and knowledge between the people of Vietnam and Cuba.
The agreement includes plans to collaborate in the production and co-production of radio and television programmes focusing on culture, history, and tourism, to be broadcast on their respective channels. Additionally, the two sides agreed to facilitate the exchange of senior leader delegations to discuss professional skills, management, and the production of broadcast programmes. Exchanges and training for reporters and editors are also part of the agreement.
In a related move, Vietnamese and Cuban journalists shared professional experiences in the digital age at an international seminar co-hosted by the Cuban Journalists’ Association (UPEC) and the Vietnam Journalists’ Association (VJA) in Havana.
The event saw the presence of UPEC President Ricardo Ronquillo and VJA Vice Chairman Tran Trong Dung.
VJA journalists delivered presentations on journalism for external service and international communication in line with Vietnam’s “bamboo diplomacy” strategy, artificial intelligence in content development and newsroom management, processes and skills for handling misinformation, distortion and harmful contents to protect sovereignty in cyberspace, digital transformation in journalism, financial autonomy, business models and advertising revenue.
Meanwhile, the Cuban side addressed topics relating to social networks facing the media war, social media as a strategic resource in Cuba, and transformation of journalism model.
At an earlier working session with UPEC President Ronquillo, Dung expressed the VJA's willingness to share experiences and enhance cooperation in digital transformation, public opinion guidance, and fight against fake and distorted news.
Meeting with Dung, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and deputy head of its Ideology Department Marydé Fernández López underlined the critical role of journalism in national defence and reaffirmed the special solidarity and friendship between the two nations.
While in Cuba from September 2-7, the VJA delegation held working sessions with various local media agencies, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba, and paid floral tribute to President Ho Chi Minh in a park named after the late leader in Havana./.
