President Truong Tan Sang attended a ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) on September 7, during which he praised its outstanding achievements, growth and 70-year glorious tradition.
He said the roles and responsibilities of the General Staff are becoming more significant amidst the complicated and changing regional and world situation, including the tense territorial dispute in the East Sea and ongoing sabotage efforts from hostile forces.
The President urged the General Staff to advise the Central Military Commission and the Defence Ministry on measures to build a revolutionary, regular, elite and modern army.
At the same time, the General Staff should also improve their personnel training quality to ensure victory in any kind of war including high-technology and cyber wars while forecasting potential situations and recommending response policies and combat plans to the Party and State, said the President.
According to Chief of the General Staff Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty, the General Staff has promoted Vietnam ’s military art and brainpower over the past 70 years, accomplishing numerous feats of arms during both wartime and the national defence and construction.
On the occasion, President Truong Tan Sang also presented the Military Exploit Order, first class, to the General Staff of the VPA.-VNA
