Vu Thi Huong, winner of 100-m and 200-m running competitions in SEA Games 25, was officially announced as the country’s number one athlete of 2009.
The announcement was made in Hanoi on December 31.
Following Huong is Nguyen Huu Viet who won the gold medal at the SEA Games 100-m swimming competition. The third position belongs to medium-distance runner Truong Thanh Hang.
Among the top 15 athletes of the year, there are four notably from track and field. Meanwhile, football–the king sports in the country–only claims one spot belonging to Doan Thi Kim Chi, who ranks fourth.
The top three of the seven best coaches are Nguyen Dinh Minh and Ho Thi Tu Tam for athletics and Dang Anh Tuan for swimming.
More than 200 reporters were invited to vote for the best athletes and coaches./.
