Water levels rise in upper Mekong River

Water levels on the upper section of the Mekong River are rising rapidly, said Luu Van Ninh, Director of the An Giang provincial Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Centre.

The water level in TanChau town and Chau Doc city in An Giang province is forecasted to rise 8to 12 cm a day over the next three days.

It is expected to hitits peak on July 31, with the highest water level on Tien River at TanChau station hitting 1.85m and 1.75m on the Hau River in Chau Doccity, 1.65m and 1.25 m below alarm No 1 level, respectively.

Thelower course of the river in Cha Moi district in Long Xuyen city willalso see tides at its peak during the end of July.

The province is taking measures to prevent flooding, protect late winter-spring crops and strengthen dyke systems.-VNA

The society stressed that the ban is unilateral and unjustified; seriously infringes upon Vietnam’s sovereignty, rights and legitimate interests; violates international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS); and runs counter to the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).
