A 6.1 million Euro water treatment plant was put into operation on June 18 in Soc Trang city, the southern province of Soc Trang.
The plant, with a processing capacity of 13,000 cubic metres per day, is part of a German-funded project to improve the province’s drainage and water treatment system.
According to Lam Huu Tung, Director of the Soc Trang Urban Works Company, the facility will drastically reduce environmental pollution in the locality, while improving living conditions for about 33,000 locals, one fourth of the total population of the province.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, German Ambassador to Vietnam Jutta Frasch said she hopes the new water treatment system will contribute to making the beautiful city cleaner.
In the future, her country will continue to support the province in bettering its urban drainage system, she added.-VNA
