HCM City (VNA) - The War Remnants Museum in HCM City’s new showroom called White Doves Carry Peace contains paintings on the theme of peace.

The showroom is the joint effort of the museum and a group of Vietnamese and Japanese volunteers who are artists, students and teachers at schools of fine arts in HCM City and in Japan.

“The showroom is a symbol of peace, helping strengthen the friendship between the two nations of Vietnam and Japan, both of which have experienced heavy loss from wars and have a strong desire for peace,” said Huynh Ngoc Van, Director of HCM City’s War Remnants Museum.

As a co-founder of the White Doves Carry Peace showroom, Japanese artist Okitani Koji, from Kawachinagano, Osaka and his volunteer team believe that the power of art can help with the call for peace and protest against war.

Artist Okitani Koji said that he and his team set up the showroom and produced mural paintings to provide a new “playground” for children when they visit or take a study tour at the museum.

Japanese volunteer artists and donors presented special gifts to children of Agent Orange victims from three organisations in HCM City – the Peace Village at Tu Du Maternity Hospital, Thien Phuoc Charity and An Phuc Charity. The Agent Orange victims attended and gave musical performances at the opening ceremony of the new showroom.-VNA
