The front page of a Time magazine that was published in 2004 to honor 20 Asian heroes has Phạm Thị Huệ's face. Huệ is a woman from Hải Phòng who was praised for protecting the rights of HIV infected people against social bias.
Huệ has been living with HIV for the past 20 years. She is proof of Vietnam's successful efforts in HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention.
WHO appreciates Vietnam's efforts to put new treatments and services to bring benefits to people infected with HIV/ADIS, said Dr. Kidong Park, the WHO Representative in Vietnam.
"The quality of HIV/AIDS treatment in Vietnam is very high with viral load is below the inhibitory threshold by 95%. This is an incredible result, which is as high as of some countries in Europe," said Mr. Olivier Cavey, a director of The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria./.
