Work on HCM City’s Metro Line No.2 to begin next year

HCM City (VNA) – Work on Ho Chi Minh City’s Metro LineNo.2, connecting Ben Thanh Market and Tham Luong, will start in 2021, accordingto the city’s Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR).

The MAUR said it is taking all required steps for thebidding process to complete this year.

As the land acquisition process is underway, Vice Secretary ofthe municipal Party Committee Tran Luu Quang has urged relevant agencies to paymore attention to the project and complete land clearance in June.

The line’s construction is expected to finish in 2025 so that the project can be put into use in 2026, two years later than the initial 2024 goal.

Thecity’s Ben Thanh – Tham Luong Metro Line will have 10 stations and span morethan 11 kilometres through districts 1, 2, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh and Tan Phu.Trains will travel underground for about 9.2 kilometres.

Whencompleted, the metro line will connect the Thu Thiem new urban area withdowntown HCM City and neighbourhoods in the city’s northwestern section.

Itis designed to be capable of carrying up to 140,000 passengers per day afterthe first phase completes and 400,000 passengers per day in the second phase.

The project cost hasnearly doubled since its start, from 26 trillion VND (1.1 billion USD) to 47.89trillion VND (2.05 billion USD).

HCM City authorities hadpreviously announced they would speed up work on Metro LineNo 1, connecting Ben Thanh in District 1 and Suoi Tien Theme Park in Thu DucDistrict so that it could be completed by the end of 2021./.

Hanoi puts 28 more electric buses into operation

The new VinFast Green Bus vehicles, manufactured in 2026, have a capacity of 60 passengers. They are equipped with low floors for easier boarding, facilities for people with disabilities, air conditioning and other modern amenities to improve passengers’ comfort and travel experience.

500-day campaign brings fallen soldiers closer to home

Information provided by local residents in Son La province helped authorities find the remains of two fallen soldiers after four days of searching. At Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City, 701 sets of remains and 304 sets of personal items have been recovered, while in Ca Mau province, more than 3,000 unidentified graves have been excavated and biological samples collected.
