Work to improve Vuc Lake in thecapital’s Long Bien district kicked off on March 14, marking thebeginning of a project on inner-city lake protection and preservationproposed by the Hanoi People’s Committee.
The totalcost for the improvement will be 20 billion VND (1million USD),invested by the Him Lam Joint Stock Company. The company will dredgethe lake to increase its depth by 3.5 metres, embank it and create aclean and green environment surrounding it.
The project is expected to be carried out within six months andcompleted by the time the city celebrates its 1,000 anniversary.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Secretary of the city’s PartyCommittee Pham Quang Nghi asked the investor, constructors, supervisorsand related authorities to make their best efforts to complete theproject as scheduled while ensuring its quality.
The city’s Department of Construction was asked to promptly work outand submit regulations on managing and protecting city lakes andpromoting their historic, cultural and functional values.
From now to the end of April, municipal departments must cooperate withdistrict People’s Committees and investors to finish all preparationsfor the improvement of 15 lakes in the project.
Currently, the 10 inner districts of the city have 112 lakes, of which46 already have stone embankments. Among the 66 lakes still notupgraded, 21 have received investment.
The city is calling for more investments for the 45 lakes left fromdomestic and foreign enterprises, organisations and individuals.According to the Construction Department, the total capital that wouldbe spent on the 45 lakes was 1.4 trillion VND (78 million USD).
Enterprises that contributed to the lake improvement project would begiven some investment preferences such as land usage fee exemptions andreductions, land clearance fees and corporate income tax reductions.
