A ceremony was held in the island district of Phu Quoc, southern Kien Giang province on November 17 to kick off the installation of a 110kV undersea cable system linking the island to the national power grid.
The project has received a total investment of over 2.3 trillion VND (110 million USD), partly coming from a World Bank loan.
The 58km Ha Tien-Phu Quoc system has received investment from the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN)’s southern branch and is being implemented by Italian EPC contractor Prysmian Powerlink SRL in a deal worth 67.4 million EUR.
The Italian company vowed to complete the installation on January 13, 2014 so that the system will become operational on the occasion of the 2014 Lunar New Year.
Together with this system, the EVN’s southern branch has also invested in three other important power grid projects.-VNA
