HCM City (VNA) – Over 40 leading experts and scientists from Australia, Germany, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, the US and Vietnam shared experience in applying micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) and nano-materials to build a safe and friendly city at a conference held in Ho Chi Minh City on August 27-28.

The 3rd International Workshop on MEMS and Sensors System, themed “MEMS and Nanomaterials”, was co-organised by the Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP), Institute for Nanotechnology under the Vietnam National University-HCM City, Japan’s national Institute for Materials Science, and the Japan Society for Precision Engineering.

The event creates opportunities for the Vietnamese southern hub to popularise its smart urban development programme, while helping Vietnamese scientists access to latest technologies and learn experience from their colleagues so as to apply rational technologies into local situation.

According to SHTP Acting Head Le Bich Loan, MEMS and sensor systems in Internet of Things (IoT) applications play an important role in addressing current challenges to branch out smart urban area in Ho Chi Minh City.

The city has asked the SHTP R&D Centre to carry out the “MEMS development during 2017-2020 with vision until 2030” programme, which focuses on the MEMS human resources training, acquiring advanced technologies in MEMS, and promoting international cooperation in the field, she added.

On the occasion, the SHTP R&D Centre inked an agreement with the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) on developing nano-materials in sensors and biomedicine.-VNA
