Vinh Phuc (VNA) – A workshop on the Young Water ProfessionalNetwork 2023 themed “Tackling water challenges in Vietnam” was held in VinhPhuc province on December 5.

The event was jointly organised by theDepartment of Water Resources Management under the Ministry of NaturalResources and Environment, Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the Australian Water Partnership (AWP).

Deputy head of the department Ngo Manh Ha said that the workshop was the first step forthe forming of Vietnam's network of young water professionals. Thosechosen to this network represent officials, researchers, scientists, lecturers,and students, who are aged between 21 and 35, and working and studying atagencies, research institutes and universities in water resources management,natural resources management, climate change, the environment and severalrelated fields.

Through guidance and interaction from Vietnameseand Australian experts, young professionals will strengthen dialogue withstakeholders, come up with solutions to challenges, and sustainably managewater resources in Vietnam, thus bringing long-term and sustainable effects tothe environment, Ha added.

Regarding water resources managementrecommendations for Vietnam, John Riddiford, Chair of the International WaterAssociation's Watershed and River Basin Management specialist group, advisedagencies to be consistent in policy and legal framework so as to understand thefull value of water through the commitment to management, and promote transparencyand accountability./.

Storm brings heavy rains to northern Vietnam

Storm Narra, the fourth to hit the East Sea this year, brought strong winds and heavy rains to northern Vietnam on early August 22, with some areas forecast to receive more than 500mm of rain as the storm moves slowly over the northern waters of the East Sea.

The project is being implemented in the former Hoa Binh city, now Hoa Binh ward. It has a total investment of 688.7 billion VND (26.38 million USD), including 507.3 billion VND in ODA and 181.4 billion VND in counterpart funding. Major components include a wastewater treatment plant, pumping stations, a collection network, and connection infrastructure.
