Workshop shares violence prevention experience

More than 90 delegates from 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region along with representatives from domestic and foreign organisations on October 24 gathered for a workshop in Can Tho city to discuss how to prevent gender-based violence in the region.
More than 90 delegates from 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Deltaregion along with representatives from domestic and foreignorganisations on October 24 gathered for a workshop in Can Tho city todiscuss how to prevent gender-based violence in the region.

The event was jointly organised by the United Nations Entity for GenderEquality and Empowerment for Women (UN Women) and the Department ofGender Equality under the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and SocialAffairs.

It was held to raise public awareness of preventingand reducing violence in Vietnam, while providing references forbuilding a future national draft on gender-based violence prevention.

This was also part of activities to contribute to implementingthe target of gender equality in families in Vietnam, thusgradually realising the National Strategy on Gender Equality for the2011-2020 period.

Participants shared their experience inreducing cases of violence in Vietnam and gave recommendations tohelp the ministry map out strategies and policies.

On theoccasion, the ministry and authorities’ initiatives, models and projectsin the field that have been implemented in the region, were alsointroduced to the participants.-VNA
