The inaugural ceremony of Kuala Lumpur International Airport number 2(KLIA2) was attended by Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Transport AbdulAziz Kaprawi, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) Chairman Wan AbdulAziz Wan Abdullah and Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) DirectorGeneral Abdul Rahman Azharuddin.
The new airportsaw the first plane landing at 0h5’, which was flight OD1027 operated byMalindo Air. About three hours later, flight 5J502 operated by CebuPacific Airways became the first to take off from the KLIA2.
Covering a total area of 257,000 square metres, the airport has 60gates, 80 airbridges and 225 retail outlets located in an area of 32,000square metres. Designed with a capacity of 45 million passengers everyyear, it is expected to welcome 22 million users this year.
Construction of KLIA2, which is only nearly 2 km from the Kuala LumpurInternational Airport, commenced in 2010 with a total capital of 1.3billion USD.-VNA
